Bodily resurrection is one of the most fundamental doctrines of Islamic theology, consistently accompanied by philosophical questions regarding the manner in which the body returns and how personal identity is preserved. In the modern era, the emergence of the mind–body problem in contemporary philosophy has reintroduced these questions from a new angle, raising challenges about the possibility of reconstituting the body, the continuity of consciousness, and the relationship between soul and body in the afterlife. The central question of this study is how the doctrine of bodily resurrection can be explained in light of philosophical discussions on personal identity and the mind–body problem, while also addressing the associated objections. The aim of this research is to offer a conceptual and philosophical analysis of bodily resurrection within the framework of Islamic philosophy and to examine its relationship with the mind–body problem in contemporary thought. Accordingly, the study seeks to show how the anthropological foundations of Islamic philosophy—particularly the theory of the soul—can provide a theoretical basis for explaining the continuity of human identity in the Hereafter. It also explores how this philosophical tradition can address objections such as the dispersion of bodily parts, material alteration, and the challenge of identity persistence. The research method is descriptive–analytical, and the data have been collected through the study of Qur’anic sources, exegetical works, theological texts, and philosophical literature. The findings indicate that in Islamic philosophy, personal identity depends not primarily on the constant materiality of the body but rather on the reality of the soul and its continuity; the body in the Hereafter is reconstructed in relation to this soul. On this basis, bodily resurrection is not understood as the return of the same worldly matter but as the emergence of a body suited to the afterlife, one that preserves human personal identity. Such an analysis can clarify several challenges raised in the philosophy of mind regarding the mind–body relationship and the problem of identity persistence within a theological and philosophical horizon.
